If you’ve ever been caught with your dress over your head on a windy day, you know how important some summer style hacks can be. These are three of my absolute faves that you can easily use!
Summer Style Hacks #1: hidden bra straps
One of my favourite things to find on a dress is the little silver snaps with string attached to snap my bra strap into. It allows me to move around without worrying about and fiddling with my bra strap.
This little tutorial will help you add those awesome bra strap holders to any garment you like (I have a couple tank tops and a wide neck dress I’m going to add these to).
{p.s. if sewing isn’t your thing, no worries… just ask your dry cleaner or seamstress to add these for you.}
Summer Style Hacks #2: prevent wind-blown skirts
The Queen of England has an easy hack to prevent wind-blown skirts—add curtain weights to the hem of your skirt or dress.
Although the video below isn’t a how-to, I did find it helpful to see different kinds of curtain weights and to visualize which I might add to the hem of different garments.
Summer Style Hacks #3: dresses you can bend in
When I had my daughter, all of sudden a sundress (my go-to summer garment) no longer felt practical. It was hard to bend and lift and sit in a sandbox in a dress without exposing myself. But I didn’t feel happy only being able to wear shorts and pants in the summer months. Wearing a dress felt so much more free.
Then, I started wearing a pair of hot yoga shorts under my dresses so if I did expose myself it was no big deal, I was wearing shorts.
… and then something else happened.
I was comfortable walking longer distances in a dress because my thighs no longer rubbed directly together and got sore. Two hacks in one!
These are the ones I’ve purchased most recently, but you may already own a pair that would work for you. Consider these three key things for these amazing under-your-dress shorts:
1. They are the lightest-weight fabric you can find.
2. They are long enough to reach the area of your thighs that rub the most.
3. The colour is somewhat inconspicuous but not nude—if I expose myself I want people to easily know that I’m actually wearing shorts but a hot pink pattern short is too noticeable. I find neutral, solid colours like black, white and gray work well.
Do you have any summer style hacks you’d like to share? I would love to hear about them in the comments below!
