You’ve had some lovely time off with your baby while on maternity leave – likely hanging out in jeans most of your days or something even more casual.
Knowing what to wear to work when you go back after maternity leave is hard. You’ve physically changed. Emotionally changed. You’re a whole new you.
…BUT your work wardrobe is as it was almost two years ago before you were in maternity clothes.
Time for a change.
You may need to do a wee bit of shopping with 3 style tips in mind:
1. You’ll use these pieces again. Many women don’t buy new clothing after having a baby because they want to lose some weight (I hear ya!), but if you plan on having another child these “transitional” clothes can be used again in various stages of weight fluctuation. So although you may think you can only wear these new pieces for a couple of months, you may actually get a year or more use out of them.
2. The tummy factor. You may now have a tummy that wasn’t there before (hear ya again!). Check out the dressing tips for the Circle Body Shape (even if that’s not your shape) to give you ideas on how to accent other areas that aren’t your tummy. A few tummy tricks I used in the photo above – coloured pants (with stretch), a loose-fitting blouse, and a structured layer piece made in a flowing fabric.
3. Art of accessories. To help express the new you, try picking up a few cheap accessories that you wouldn’t have worn before, but now feel drawn to. I especially love H&M and Aldo Accessories for these. Almost everything is under $20, so you can play without breaking the bank. I promise you will be thrilled with how a new necklace or earrings or bracelet can make your old clothes feel a lot more like you.
Still feel overwhelmed by it all? We can do this for you.

Many similar articles forget about moms that may still be breastfeeding/expressing at work. I found a loose top or even a Grecian-style dress worked well for discreet breast access -mom of 3
