Not all closet cleaning endeavours need to take a long time. If you’d like to get a jump-start on organizing your clothing close this spring, here are a few quick tips.
1. Remove all hangers that don’t have an item on them. Put metal hangers in a bag to give back to your dry cleaner, and place all the other hangers at one end of your closet. You will be amazed at how much hanging clothes space you gain.
2. Sort clothes by item and colour. For example, hang all collared shirts together in one closet, then organize each of those shirts by colour. It works well to start with neutrals (black, white, brown, gray) and finish with the colours of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple). Then move onto silk blouses, skirts, dresses, etc. This type of organization makes it really easy to see what you have, and also what you need.
3. Put all winter clothes in a box for storage. There is no need to have heavy sweater, winter jackets, and wool pants in your closet for the spring/summer. If you leave them in there they will crowd out the good stuff you can wear.
What a refreshing feeling to have a somewhat clean closet in a matter of minutes!
