It’s a long weekend here in Canada, and I’m spending it hanging in my happy place—the Woods’ family cottage.
This treasured place has been in the family for more than a century, and now it’s for sale. I likely won’t be up here next summer, for the first time in my whole life.
Some things are hard, others things (like getting dressed) don’t need to be.
These three pieces may be tricking you into thinking they are easy-to-wear when really they take some effort to style well and look put together—and there are easy alternatives that savvy shoppers might choose instead.
1. Khaki-Coloured Chinos
Khaki-coloured chinos are a go-to for many, but more times the way they’re styled has an “I give up” look.
This does not mean, “ditch all your khakis”… I’m just saying if you’re going to wear khakis you have to think through what it is you’re going to pair it with in order to look pulled together.
If you’re a savvy shopper you’ll choose your chinos in dark army green or white. These two colours are easy to throw on with your favourite t-shirt and comfortable accessories and look pulled together with very little effort.
2. Maxi Skirt
A maxi skirt feels like it should be an easy breezy summer piece, but it can be difficult to find tops to go with them. They tend to look best with sleeveless tanks—anything else can look too covered.
The savvy shopper will choose a maxi dress over a maxi skirt so they don’t need to think about it. A maxi dress looks great as is—throw on a pair of sandals and go.
3. Jean Shirt
I’ve featured a jean shirt recently—both here and here—so I obviously like the way they look. Jean shirts take effort to style because they are really hard to wear with jeans (and that will be your first thought).
The savvy shopper will also have a cotton or silk shirt alternative to throw on with blue jeans or jean shorts for the days they don’t want to think about their outfit.
The more we share the better we feel. If you have friends who would feel more at ease with their shopping choices by reading this article, please pass it along to them.
