I was in the elevator the other day with three other women and I couldn’t help but notice we were all wearing the same thing. Not the exact same thing, but the same combination—a winter jacket with a big scarf, jeans and flats.
However, even though we were wearing the exact same things, we all looked totally different.
This is what I love so much about outfit formulas. If you’re able to start thinking about the “formulas” you like most, you can use them to make your life so so so much easier, yet look different each and every day.
Most often when the formula is simple, you’ll have all the pieces you need to create the outfit hanging out in your closet.
So today I’ve put together three formulas for spring outfit ideas that might work for you, each with three different versions of the same formula. All made with pieces you likely already have in your closet.
These spring outfit ideas will help you train your eye to notice different formulas and find the ones that work the best for you!
formula 1 = jeans + t-shirt + spring coat + sunglasses + flats
As far as spring outfit ideas go, this one should be easy for you to pull out of what you already have in your closet.
Version 1 – Edgy Chic
This version of the jeans and t-shirt outfit has an edgy feel with a chic feminine twist. The dark gray wrap coat and floral t-shirt add femininity to the edgy black zip jeans and pointy black boots. The black plastic sunglasses make this outfit feel even more rockstar.
Version 2 – Classic with a Twist
This version is filled with pieces that have a classic silhouette with modern pattern combinations. The classic white jeans are made interesting paired with a patterned coat, animal print flat and graphic tee. The pink sunglasses add a touch of femininity, while the funky ring adds a little sparkle.
Version 3 – Playful
This version of the jeans and t-shirt spring outfit idea is filled with colour so it has a very playful vibe! The bright yellow raincoat and patterned rain boots are grounded by down-to-earth denim and an easy-to-wear tank. The red sunglasses add colourful boldness and the simple stud earrings finish the outfit.
formula 2 = simple dress + short jacket + earrings + everyday bag
For spring outfit ideas, this is one of the most simple, comfortable options out there.
Version 1 – Casual Day
I can see throwing this outfit on every Saturday to pop around town checking things off your to-do list as you go! It’s the simplest of outfits with a whole lot of impact. A t-shirt dress layered with a denim jacket, your favourite everyday bag and a pair of statement studs. Finish it all off with your most comfortable pair of stylish flats and you’re ready for a day of running around.
Version 2 – Work
Spring outfit ideas and formulas can easily slide into work as well as casual. A fun spring blazer adds an instant pop to any work outfit really, including this simple shift dress. Finish it off with your favourite pumps, simple diamond studs and your everyday work bag and you’re all set—a wonderful work uniform!
Version 3 – Evening
This spring outfit idea easily slides into evening (or a sexy day look) too. An edgy leather jacket with a slim-fit dress and hoop earrings create this sexy look easily—same formula as above, totally different feel, right?!? The high-heeled booties add even more va-va-voom while the backpack grounds the outfit and gives it a juxtaposed modern feel.
formula 3 = shorts + long-sleeve blouse + scarf + wedges + bracelet
I love the idea of pairing cool bottoms with a long-sleeve top as it gets warmer. You could always add a jean jacket or blazer over this spring outfit idea to add a little more warmth if you need it.
Version 1 – Bold on Top
Maybe shorts make you nervous? If so, try this combo with what you already own. Wear neutral, solid-coloured shorts with a neutral wedge shoe, patterned blouse and a bold scarf. You’ll want to keep the bracelet simple too. With this combination you’ll bring all the attention to your upper body and face, making shorts feel easier to wear.
Version 2 – Patterned Bottom
If you love your legs (no matter your age!) pull out your patterned shorts and a solid-coloured blouse and favourite pair of tall wedges and show those legs off! Bring even more attention to your legs with a chunky bracelet and simple scarf.
Version 3 – Classic
If you love a classic style, you’ll likely have all of these pieces in your wardrobe already. A beautiful white collared shirt paired with long striped shorts (these could be a solid colour too) and your favourite silk scarf. I picture the white shirt tucked in and finished with simple bangles and walkable wedges for a truly classic look.
Now it’s your turn!
