A few years ago my husband and I were walking with purpose in New York City, while sporting our favourite sunglasses. At the time they were a great disguise for tired eyes after a night on the town.
With our sunglasses and our purposeful walk, people kept turning their heads to glance at us. (In my mind they were wondering “who we were”… celebrities of some sort.)
Such is the power of really awesome sunglasses—they make you look glamourous even when you feel like you’d like to curl up for a nap on the sidewalk.
Now, sleepless nights look a little different for us, but I use sunglasses in the same way—to look like a million bucks even when I don’t feel it.
You may worry most about whether your sunglasses suit your face shape, and this is definitely important, but it takes a lot of skill to discern.
What I want you to know is that there are sunglass elements that require little-to-no skill to consider and lead to a beautifully glamourous look.
In-style shape: Although some of the most current shapes are pictured above—cat-eye, round, and square—you really don’t need to know anything about them to buy a pair of sunglasses that are “in style”. All you need to do is shop at a store that carries up-to-the-minute styles. Depending on your budget this stored could be a Forever 21 or a Bergdorf Goodman’s… or another stylish store in between. More than any other accessory, a current sunglass frame shape will add that “je ne sais quoi” glamour to any outfit.
Lens shade: Eyes are the window to the soul and your eyes give people an incredible amount of information… without that information you appear mysterious (aka glamourous). So the darker the lens, the more glamourous you’ll appear. If you’re in a job where approachability is a benefit, you’ll want to be less mysterious, so choose a lighter lens colour.
Prescription (or not?): If you wear glasses, you may want to consider a pair of prescription sunglasses. It makes your life easier to not always have to wear contacts when you’re wearing sunglasses. On the most sleep-deprived days your eyes will be dry, and contacts uncomfortable. Enter prescription sunglasses.
Coloured frames: I know, black is easy… but what about all the other colours in the world? They’re lonely. They want to be considered for your wardrobe, too! Don’t get me wrong, black is glamorous and mysterious and goes with most things, but colour can exude confidence. White (or red or blue or purple) sunglasses are eye-catching. They make people take notice of you, in a good way. They hide your tired, while waking-up passers-by… fun, right?
… And if it’s one of those days that even the most amazing sunglasses can’t disguise my tiredness, well then I know… it’s time to take a well-deserved afternoon nap.
