When I’m at the beach sporting a swimsuit—which is basically like wearing lingerie for the world to see—I can’t help but notice others around me. I look at women with washboard tummies and think, “Wow, good for them!”
I wonder to myself if these women were blessed with really good genes, or if they’ve been working hard for months to get their abs… I wonder if their abs will look the same after they have kids. For me, this is healthy noticing. I know it’s easy to get into judgement or comparison in these situations, but after years working with women I know that all women (even women with washboard tummies) have areas of their body they love and areas that they’re not as fond of. In the summer, women who love their abs happen to be in a really awesome position! Although my abs aren’t one of my favourite features, I do like to feel confident wearing a swimsuit. If you’re like me and you want to quit worrying about holding your tummy in all summer, these 5 swimsuit styles will help you feel confident while showing some skin.
High-waisted bikini bottoms
I’m really into this style. It’s fashion forward and easy-to-wear.
Look for high-waisted bottoms that come up and over your most self-conscious area—perhaps hitting right at the smallest part of your waist. For even more comfort and coverage, you could look for ruching on the bottoms as well.
Plunging Neckline
This sexy style is particularly good for women who love their décolletage and chest.
The plunging neckline brings all of the attention up to that area and no one will even notice what’s happening anywhere else. For even more sexiness, you could add a pair of chandelier earrings and a beautiful wide-brimmed sunhat.
Loose-fitting Tankini
Tankinis are awesome from a practicality stand-point, but sometimes look a bit dowdy. They can also bring more attention to your tummy when they lift away from the bottoms. A loose-fitting style will actually be more comfortable AND stylish. The fabric floats away from your tummy so you can move freely without having to constantly pull it down.
Ruching
Ruching is fabric that is bunched purposefully to create a flattering silhouette. It makes wearing form-fitting clothes comfortable, especially if you would normally gravitate to looser styles. A ruched swimsuit is always a good idea!
For an even more flattering look, try ruched swimsuits with interesting necklines—like the halter style pictured.
Peek-a-boo Skin
This is a super sexy way to show some skin—the skin you want to show!
Look for a swimsuit style that has little cut-outs of fabric in areas that make you feel beautiful, like the top of your ribcage. The wild print on this particular suit is awesome. It makes you look confident without a lick of effort.
