Winter footwear is such a hot topic for women, well really shoes in general. Some women love, love, love shoes and will buy them more than anything else. Other women see shoes as a practical means of getting around. Personally, I walk a line between the two.
Gone are the days where I just grin and bear the pain of a really uncomfortable, albeit beautiful, pair of shoes just because I want to look good.
However, I also want footwear to boost the style of any outfit I wear. To have that “perfect” shoe is to be a practical woman with a complete wardrobe. A complete winter footwear wardrobe is the only way you will be able to quickly run out the door every morning.
With these 5 pairs of shoes your winter footwear needs will be covered.
1. The Perfect Winter Partner
This boot will be your best friend for the entire winter. It needs to be weatherproof, comfortable, easy-to-walk-in (i.e. rubber soles), and stylish. Some brands to consider are Aquatalia, Canadienne, and Blondo. Invest money in a classic style you can wear for years. It will be worth it. Promise.
2. The Work Horse
This is the boot you wear to take the kids tobogganing, or go to the ski hill, or even on a winter hike – you get the picture. It is all about warmth and practicality… the style is much more casual. Sorel boots are great here. If you’re not an outdoorsy person and you’ve done a good job with your “perfect winter partner” purchase, you may be able to use that boot for this category too.
3. The Pretty Piece
This is the party shoe! Choose evening footwear that makes you happy and matches with all of the holiday party outfits you’ll wear. You may choose a shoe in a metallic colour like silver or gold, or go with a neutral colour like black, or consider a colour like red for this shoe. Would a red shoe go with all your evening outfits? No matter the colour, close-toe shoes are most practical for winter evening footwear.
4. Practicality Plus
What do you do from 9-5? If you’re in an office you will want a classic pump that you can wear with your work outfits. If you’re running kids around you may want another boot that isn’t lined so it’s more comfortable to wear inside and out. Think about what you do most… you need one more shoe to get you through your everyday, whatever that might be.
5. The World’s Most Comfortable “Shoe”
We hibernate in the winter, spending more time indoors. What would a good hibernation be without a cozy pair of slippers? Find slippers that feel like a hug when you slip them on. Love in a shoe.
